Alenka Sottler about her work:
Illustration for the Tale from Tahiti (myth about the origin of the world) was created in 2006 and was exhibited in Italy on a big international exhibition of illustrations “Le immagini della fantasia” in Sarmede, following the invitation of curator of the exhibition – Monica Monachezi. Later on, on the basis of this illustration, I created a new one for the book of fairy tales from Oceania with the title “Echi d'Oceano,” published in 2009 by the publishing house Franco Cosimo Panini.
“So, Ta'aroa started to create all things that exist.
And, since Ta'aroa had got lots of shells, everything that he created has got its own shell.
The sky is a shell for the sun, the earth and the stars, since it contains all of them.
The earth is a shell for stones and water, and for the plants that grow on it.
The shell of the man is the woman, because it is from her that he was born.
In the universe, every existing thing has got its own shell.”
